Basically, my homemade DTV antenna is two sections of #12 copper wire (no insulation and 10" long each) bent at one end to be held in place by a wood screw and washer. The wires are attached to 3/4 " PVC pipe (2 short sections and a T-fitting for longer piece secured as a base). I bought a $5 weather resistant connector from Radio shack to connect the ends of the bare wires and then connected this to the back of the DTV receiver with coax cable.

On the other side of the PVC pipe (behind the wires) is a piece of flexible tin (source: old metal shed) about 8" tall and long enough to extend by one inch past the PVC holding the wires. Wood screws hold the metal sheet in place and the metal sheet (it's a reflector) is not allowed to touch the copper wires.

At the bottom of the T-fitting, I put a ten foot section of PVC pipe and mounted the antenna to the exterior of my RV. Now I get all the DTV signals where I live whereas before I only got two signals (ABC network). Pictures are clear and sound is good. Noticed a little artifacting when the clouds were thick overhead late last night, but not enough to seriously hurt the viewing.
