Lords Cricket ground is named after it’s founder, Thomas Lord. This, one of the most famous cricket ground is located in London’s St John’s Wood area. The cricket ground is now managed by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). Lords was originally at a different location, Dorset Square but was moved to it’s present location during the early years of the 19th century. Lords, today has assumed the position of a pilgrimage for cricketers and cricket lovers, because all of them want to be here playing or watching the game at least once in their lives or careers. The stadium is the largest museum for cricket in the entire world. The stadium is a breathtaking combination of the old and new, of modern architecture and the old English masonry. There is a Media Centre , called Investec Media Centre, which houses the commentators and the reporters during the matches which is no less than an architectural wonder of the modern world. Directly opposite on the other side the ground sits the stand which has been there since the first time the stadium was opened for cricket.

The first ever game played on Lords Cricket ground was in 1805 between Harrow and Eton. The capacity of the stadium has been brought upto 32000 now with modifications in the stands over the decades.

One of the features of the ground includes the huge slope of 8 feet from one end to the other along the pitch. This makes the entire game different from either end because of the difference in bounce and the runoff speed of the ball along the ground. The two ends of the ground are the nursery end and the pavilion end.

Lord’s Cricket ground has hosted many of the most exciting cricket games ever played. One of them was where India beat England in a 7 matches One day series, where the Indian captain, Saurav Ganguly took off his shirt to show his happiness. Lords also is a venue for the Ashes series played between arch rivals England and Australia. The finals of the Friends Provident Cup, the MCC University Trophy and also NVCC are played in Lord’s year after year.

Lords houses a beautiful museum dedicated to the game of cricket and has some of the most revered pieces of the history of the game up on show. There’s on display, the equipment used by the greats of the game, like Sir Don Bradman, Shane Warne and many others. There are memorable moments stored in pictures and photos on display from some of the classic games palyed in the game of cricket.
