Questions

Everyone should know the questions about teen suicide. You never know when you might need the information and it may help you save a life or at least be able to talk to the suicidal teen and try to understand from their point of view. Teen suicide has increased enormously and the subject cannot be ignored.

Some of the questions about teen suicide that are frequently asked are:

What racial issues are connected to teen suicides?
According to history and teen suicides that have been reported, white Americans have a higher rate of teen suicides than African Americans. Although, in the 1980’s the rate of male African American teen suicides was on the increase compared to white Americans. The concern is that a very high percentage of all male teen suicides are committed with firearms.

Are there higher risks of teen suicides in homosexuals?
This is one of the very important questions about teen suicide as it will depend on the individual and how they are dealing with their findings on them being attracted to the same sex. Some teenagers will just not care what others think of them if their family has accepted their decision of being gay or lesbian while others will have their family and friends criticizing them and telling them their decision is wrong. Some families will even go to the extent of “disowning” their child because they have come out of the closet with their sexuality. So the answer here would mainly be yes homosexuals do have a higher risk of suicide. They feel unwanted and neglected when there sexuality is not accepted and they don’t know what else to do.

Should you take someone seriously if they tell you they want to commit suicide?
Most definitely, yes. Even if you think they are joking, talk to them about it and if they pursue what they said then you need go get them medical help. Talk to someone close to them and tell them exactly what this suicidal person has told you. They might be mad at you at first, but they will thank you later for saving their life. When someone is suicidal they normally don’t want anyone to interfere and try and change their mind and they might even become angrier than they were before. Get them help and give them your full support.

Do depressed teens have a higher risk of suicide?
Yes. If they have no one to talk to they will feel like suicide is their only way out. If you know of someone that is depressed, talk to them and let them know that they are special and a lot of people care for them. Then seek professional help for this person.

Teen suicide interventions

Most teens that attempt to commit suicide don’t really want to kill themselves, but are just doing it to get the attention of people and let them know that they need help. They find that an attempted suicide is the best way to let people know what is going on and by doing that they will be taken seriously.

The best teen suicide interventions are:
* If you feel that they are unstable, you should not leave them alone; have someone with them at all times.
* Do not tell them that you will not going to tell anyone, get help immediately.
* Ask them about it directly, don’t waste time and beat around the bush.
* Don’t judge and criticize, be as understanding as possible
* Don’t try and talk them out of doing it, that will just make them angry
* You need to stay calm as you have to evaluate the situation so you can explain in detail to the professional.
* Assure them that you are going to help them and work with them, giving your full support and understanding.
* Tell them know that they can talk to you about anything, let them speak to you until they are able to speak to a professional, give them advice of your own.
* Let them know that they can contact you at anytime, if they ever need anything

These are just a few teen suicide interventions. It seems to be that most suicides happen three months after the individual has received treatment. This is because they have regained all the energy they had before as the treatment has helped them to overcome their suicidal selves. So when they have the energy they had when they decided to commit attempted suicide, they are now able to follow through with their plans.

This does not always happen as some times the teen has fully recovered after they have received treatment and no longer want to kill themselves, which is the right way of thinking and is what should happen. The treatment they received has helped them to see who they really are and show them the people that really do love them as well as the people that they love and care for that they have been pushing away all this time. They are now able to start their lives over with no negative thoughts.

Just remember that anyone that has ever before attempted suicide should be watched closely, but not in a noticeable way. Just take note of their behavior and things like that and if you think something might be wrong, talk to them immediately. And also remember the teen suicide interventions.

Teen suicide

Teen suicide is a terrible thing, even if it is someone you don’t know that well. It still haunts you - the fact that you might just have been able to help, maybe talk the person out of it or just try to understand what they are saying and be there for them. It could be a person that is in your class at school, maybe some kids made fun of them and that caused them to commit suicide, if you knew that they were thinking of killing themselves because of their miserable school life, I bet you would have done something to stop people from bullying him or her.

That is why bullies should really think about what they are doing to others and the damage they are causing. It might be funny at first when you play pranks on people and make fun of them, but all the laughing stops when they realize that the person they like to make fun of is now a victim of teen suicide.

In order for teen suicide to take place, the young-adult must be really upset about something, be it school, home life or drugs, they are seriously unhappy about something. The other worst part of teen suicide is when you realize that you are too late to say sorry or if you had an argument the last time you saw each other, that will make you feel terrible about yourself as those were not very nice last words.

The weapon that is mainly used to commit teen suicide is a gun. This is why it is extremely important that you have your gun locked away if you have a gun in your home. The gun should not be loaded and it should be locked in a safe and the key is to be kept where no one can find it.

Teen suicide has an effect on everyone. It is so sad to hear about these happenings as the adolescent had so much of life left to explore, their life had only just begun. Drugs are also often the cause of teen suicide, when they have realized they have an addiction problem that they can’t deal with; they look to teen suicide as their only source of help. When there are actually many other ways in which to deal with the problem, such as rehabilitation, counseling and just general help and support from family and friends.

If you have the slightest suspicion that someone is in trouble and may be heading towards teen suicide, it is vital that you seek help for that person as soon as you can.
